Convertible...

Stila Convertible Color  in Peony!

Its a great a multitasking product that lasts. I use it as a blush and on occasion a lipstick with a light gloss over it (try nars ophelia). It gives my cheeks a great pop of peachy pink color & saves me from dull winter skin. I am thinking of getting it in fuchsia or camellia next.

Whats your favorite blush?

I've been pairing my 2 favorite accessories with otherwise plain work outfits. I got this awesome bangle at the FIDM shop in LA for less than $2 and this vintage looking print scarf at a thrift store for 3!

Smells like ...

Fall! Ever have that scent in your arsenal that reminds you of a time or place.  Yesterday before work I spritzed on Narciso Rodriquez for her.

The luxurious woodsy amber scent is the perfect match for crisp weather and lush fabrics like cashmere, corduroy and maybe a faux fur vest. Whats your "go to" fall scent?

beading

Out on a Saturday morning shopping trip for looks for our gal Liz,  I found this Collective Concepts top at Nordstrom Rack. Its become my new fav place for ontrend fashions. The material is substantial and soft in a perfect blush color.

For a look that was more mod chic than boho, I paired it with grey suede pumps & skinny black pants. Thanks to Bri for encouraging these looks.

Neutral

Amidst ultra trendy maroon & green hues I still like to keep my nails neutral for work. A less daring chic option is greige, a beige~grey combo
What you will try on your next trip to the salon?

I am an Essie' girl & game to try merino cool

Going Green

Green with Envy ...

I've had an inspiring week during Boston's fashion week. Green suede pumps have become a recent obsession. They'd pair well with skinny jeans, neutrals and this striped top I just picked up.Ann Taylor Loft

Cameras on the fritz. Stay tuned for pictures, including recent finds from a fab swap event!

Monday Night out...

Yes Boston has a FASHION WEEK. With Bri in tow I headed to the W, my favorite hotel chain, for a fashionable Monday night out.

Second Time Around, the upscale resale chain who over the past two years has taken the Northeast by storm, hosted a runway show of their restyled looks.

Amy of Stylish Year took the images above!

The shop at the W is tiny but hosts an amazing array of very NOW items. I scored my new favorite perfume coSTUME NATIONAL scent gloss... a light modern floral. See Bri blog for more on the store at the W

hypnotize me

On a recent trip to Sephora, I broke down and bought the shadow I've stalking by Nars Ondine a perfect plum with golden shimmer. It ill make a great addition for fall.

My surprise Nars purchase was a lipgloss in Ophelia. With a sheer pop of bright pink, it broke me out of a rut of neutral gloss.

My favorite item was the sample of hypnose drama mascara by Lancome. Wow with two coats I had perfect volume and nearly looked like I had added a few fake lashes. I will definitely be back to buy the full size.

Mario to the rescue

.....brothers? Batoli? no Badescu! I'm talking about my favorite skincare line Mario Badescu. Summer has taken a toll my my skin but it's Mario to the rescue.

I use their buttermilk moisturizer ever day, as seen in may's issue of Glamour and the glycolic cleaning gel 3 times a week to help unclog pores and gently exfoliate.

After a pesky breakout their healing cream (seen above) is a God send to avoid scaring and speed healing. I also love their cucumber or flour and tonic masks for regular maintenance.

Words to Shop by

I had to share these words to shop by article from forbes.com. I edited it down to some key points.

Start With A Couple Essentials and Build From There
Amy Smilovic, designer of the celebrity favorite fashion line Tibi, selects six favorite pieces--her closet essentials--and builds her wardrobe around them. "Everything I purchase should work with those items. It's the failsafe way to make sure that everything in your closet can be layered in some form."

Your Wardrobe: A Top 10 Checklist
After you select that edited collection of basics you'll be in the good position to carefully add to your wardrobe. Just be sure you don't clutter your wardrobe with impulse purchases.

Skip the Impulse Purchase
Supermodel Beverly Johnson, who was the first African-American woman to grace the cover of Vogue in 1974, says that limiting the number of times a year she actually goes shopping helps her make better purchasing decisions. "For me shopping is not about quantity," says Johnson. "I go shopping four times a year. I maybe buy two good pieces a season." Perhaps that is why Johnson always looks classic on the red carpet in looks ranging from a black and white pinstripe suit to a black belted cocktail dress.

Shop For Your Body
Cut and fit is crucial when building a wardrobe of great basics. Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, says, "Women don't often buy what's best for their bodies, they buy what's best on the model." Go through your closet and get rid of anything that doesn't fit you properly. If you can, salvage ill-fitting items by taking them to the tailor, if they can't be salvaged, donate them. When buying new clothes, spend some time in the dressing room to really assess if an item is right for your body. It's also important to factor in your lifestyle when making wardrobe choices. Most women actively balance multiple roles--a work life, family commitments and hopefully a bit of a social life too, and a wardrobe should reflect that.

Avoiding fads doesn't mean you should be buying staid clothes
.
If there is any place to truly invest in your wardrobe, it's accessories. A statement necklace can completely transform that basic black dress--and take you from day to evening in 30 seconds. Belts and bags are another great way to add a bit of personality to your look.

When You Love Something, Go For It!
Bottom line: Don't be afraid to indulge in a few items you'll love forever. And if you have an item that is dependably chic in your wardrobe--buy in bulk.

Buffalo Gal

My friend Bri introduced me to my new favorite shop for pre-loved goodies. Buffalo Exchange, a hipster consignment shop in Davis Square. I attribute its organized layout to my successful shopping experience. I was able to snag a few interchangeable pieces to update my summer wardrobe.

Above is a purple stapless sundress, a green chunky ring, pleated shorts, and a canvas bag embellished with a jeweled peacock pattern for a grand total of $50. The denim motorcycle style jacket and brown belt were from forever 21 aka the flagship store of stylish & cheap finds.

Those who can't, Fake it!

It's that time of year again, temperatures creep up to 70, skirts get shorter and fabrics get breezier. It's also when I start thinking, "Woah, I need a tan." Irish and Polish (my heritage) does not a tan make. So what's a fair skinned gal to do.

Fake it.... The BEST products to achieve great natural color.
Overall Best of the best...

Faux Tan by Bare Essentials My mom, a novice self-tanner, found this on qvc & I've been in love ever since. Faux is tinted so you know where your applying it. It will look splotchy at first but that's just the cosmetic bronzer. I recommend applying at night, shower in the morning. I PROMISE, all the area of excess bronzer will wash away in the shower leaving an extremely even, natural golden tan; great for all skin tones! Leaves your skin soft& supple.

Quick and Natural
...
TanTowels
These individual towelettes give great color and come in two shades. Dries very quickly. Great for the face too!The darker shade can be harsh if you do not already have a base tan.

Spray n Play... L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Mist (CVS alert!) This any angle spray doesn't miss a spot. Dry off after showering, hop back in the shower and spray liberally all over. It delivers even coverage for a great value. I like it for an added kick on my legs. Also recommended- Sally Hanson Airbrush Sun.

For the Faint of Heart Nivea Sunkissed Body Gradual Tan and Firming Natural, foolproof, gradual color that's fantastic for all skin tones. Did I mention it firms too?! Can be used as an everyday moisturizer. Just don't expect visible results for a few uses.

Spring in Bloom

I'm back after a brief hiatus with more beauty wisdom and age, I had a birthday! Happy Spring Ladies!!!

Trend to watch...Purple shadow

The shinier the better. Fear not this translates beautifully on most skin tones and relates well to feminine florals or edgier looks.

Try...
Nars in Night Rider or Night Fairly powder duo in Sugarland. Makes more of an impact if used as an allover color not blended. Add a matching colored liner topped off with black voluminizing mascara (covergirl lashblast is my fav!)and a dash of pink (not coral or bronze)blush!

Compliment those violet eyes with muted lavender polish.
Lilacism, part of Essie's Spring 2010 collection.

I'll be sure to sample these trends this weekend.

Here's a brief tutorial video on the new metallic purple eye- thanks Allure!!

Weather the Storm...

Rain, Rain go away, my pretty hair wants to look good today!

Ladies don't succumb to bad hair days.. not on my watch!
My BEST tip- apply an anti frizz serum all over & blowout your hair the night before. The nights rest will help your hair's cuticles calm down so it isn't as apt to frizz. Or use the weather as an excuse to get a little creative.

Hairbands
Go Schoolgirl Chic like Blair (GG)

Try a mod ponytail

A fun braid (works great for bangs or flyways)

Bling bling...

Do I see a sparkle in your eyes or are you just happy to see me?

Who doesn't love a little glitz and glimmer, especially on a big night out.
For megawatt shimmer test drive these

Glitter pencils ...Lorac (left) or Nars (right)

Add Lorac's brown liner on top of your regular liner for a more subtle look

Urban Decay's fun shadow colors like midnight cowboy or polyester princess balance glitter with undertones of peach, beige or pearly white.

Makeup forever's version packs an eyepopping punch

For more staying power use a eyeshadow primer. Add individual fake lashes for a more dramatic look

Ladies, yes you can have too much of a good thing...
if you are going to play up your eyes, keep the rest of your face neutral!

Spray for the day

No time for a wash and blow dry? Fear not dolls, dry shampoo is here to the rescue. Here are a few I stand behind.

Orlando Pita Voluminizing Dry Shampoo ($28 at Sephora/Ulta)
my favorite because it comes in 3 shades and really gives your hair a boost as well as absorbing extra oils. A bottle last about 3 months with weekly use.
**Style TIP**works even better if you apply a little heat from the blow dryer or flat iron. Also comes in dry conditioner form.

Rene Furterer Naturia ($31 Sephora/ Ulta or high end salons) Another great alternative to "lathering, rinse, repeat". Extends your limp lots another full day. Draw back is it has a musky odor that dissipates after a few minutes.
Bedhead Rockaloics Dirty Secrets ($18 at retail salons)
Nice fresh scent & works well for the price. Doesn't give the root lift that Orlando Pita can deliver.

AVOID- Oscar Blondie dry shampoo
Heavy smell of lemon cleaner. From my experience the product evaporates after a few uses. Sephora claims the brand is fixing the issue. Until then- stear clear!
